A nanny works with two children before quitting her job because her boss (their mom) is incredibly high-strung and demanding.

Employer denied my last paycheck because of Disney tickets.

I quit without a two weeks notice. A week or two after I quit I was scheduled to be with the kids at Disney World. She decided not to pay me because she paid $900 for the ticket. Heres the text thread:

Me: Hello, so im wondering why I didn't receive payment for the days I worked? June 15,16, and 17. Thanks
  • 04
Her: Because you owed for the nearly $900 disney world ticket that you induced us to pay for prior to you quitting without notice. You're welcome
  • 05
It was nonrefundable. I'd just like advice on what to do in this situation, as I've never experienced an employer like this. Thanks.

kittygirlshy The Disney ticket is a work expense your employer purchased at her own risk. A Disney ticket is not the equivalent of a week's payment. Tell her you're happy to be in contact with legal counsel and your state's labor board if she's unwilling to pay you. This is wage theft.

Aggravating-Goat-889 OP Great point, thank you!
  • 08
kittygirlshy Of course! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this bs. went to your profile and realized you're the person who quit because your MB who is an ATTORNEY refused to give you mileage reimbursement. Honestly I'd go so far as to contact her firm and let them know all the illegal and unethical things she's been doing. As someone who has attorneys in my family I'm disgusted this person is still allowed to practice law.

quickthorn_ Yes, aren't there ethical standards for attorneys even for behavior outside of their direct practice? Could OP share documentation of her unethical/illegal actions with not only her employer, but the bar association in her state?

Ilsa MayCalder Yes. We had to take a whole a class on it and a standardized test (MPRE - god it's been so long I'm only 99% sure that's what it's called lol) on these rules!

throwawayobv999999 Disney are not refundable however the tickets never expire! The money will not disappear, but it just has to go towards tickets or annual passes in the future. I purchased Disney tickets 4 years ago and ever activated them. When I bought an annual pass this year, they deducted the total off the price of the pass. Do NOT let them get away with this.

throwawayobv999999 - Also — If they really want to be petty and enforce this, then at MINIMUM they can put the ticket in your name and give you access to it. Try calling Disney customer service to see if there is a ticket under your name/personal info.

One-Basket-9570 Good point! If I am having my wages withheld because of a Disney ticket, give me my Disney ticket! Because I am petty Betty! I wouldn't care if the family was going to be at the park that day, it's huge! I went with my high school marching band 2x, and didn't see 3/4 of the 200 kids or chaperones while in the park. I would be at the park! Actually, I wouldn't care if I did see them! I'm a Disney! Let me go find Belle & Merida!

A Disney fanatic holds a ticket to Disneyland in front of the entrance to the park. She doesn't care where she got it from, because she's going to enjoy her day at Disney no matter what.
  • 15
Aggravating-Goat-889 OP I just personally have no interest in Disney World. Lol, maybe if it was Universal Studios I just want the money that I worked for. Plus, I highly doubt she would give me the tickets.

One-Basket-9570 We both know she thinks she's in the right & even if you gave/worked a 2 week notice, she would have another excuse as to why she wasn't paying. She thinks she's is above you & smarter than you. In her world, since she is an attorney & you are just a "nanny", she can do as she please. Please, update us when you make that labor claim & the outcome! I would love to be a fly on the wall when she finds out!

Eggplant||14927 wages are still owed (is what i woukd text). please remit immediately. failure to pay wages is a department of labor issue or small claims court. please confirm you will pay my wages. failure to do so will result in my filing a complaint and a smal, claims suit. as an employer it is your responsibility to pay wages according to state and government laws give them 48 hours then do both, the complaint and the suit. the parents need to learn failing to pay isnt just a it's criminal.

Left Remote_8822 Do not threaten a complaint or suit. Demand payment with a deadline. If they don't pay, file the complaint. Don't let her prepare. Just do it.

Friendly-Channel-480 This is beyond illegal! File a claim.

myfivelies One call to her firm would be a devastating liability for her. Wage theft or off book employment could get her disbarred.
